Graphic Design is Not My Passion
Got Resume Builder is a resource I use in my job when I help people create resumes. It's a great resource since you don't have to format the resume and it allows you to come back later to make edits. The Chicago Public Library publicly recommends it as their option for resume creation, but I have never seen a physical brochure walking patrons through the process, so I thought this could be an interesting source to create a tutorial for.
The part of the assignment that was the trickiest for me was actually putting it together. I do not have an "eye for design." I really struggle with what I feel looks good together, appropriate proximity between objects, and keeping everything in line. I almost started over multiple times, but ultimately decided I was probably being too hard on myself.
I still feel a bit uncertain about the appearance of the screenshots in the brochure. I think including screenshots is super important, and I wanted to make sure I included a good portion of the screen, as just a screenshot of a button can be difficult if they are unable to find it on the page. This led to some screenshots that are an awkward size to fit on a trifold, and am not sure if some are too small to be all that helpful. I can't really think of anything I could've done to make that better while still using the trifold design. I suppose I could've rotated the brochure landscape, but that seems awkward.
I used a template to help with the layout and design, but I had to change so much to get it to fit the information I was putting in, that I am not sure it was as helpful as it could've been. I think it would have been beneficial if I spent more time looking at templates to find one that I not only liked the design of, but that also had information laid out in a similar fashion to how I also knew I was going to lay out mine.
I used Google Slides to create the template, both because it is a platform I am familiar with and because it was what was recommended. I was also able to find templates for brochures for Google Slides on Slidesgo, which is the main website I use to find interesting presentation templates.
I think this would be helpful for patrons, but not enough to really push for this to be printed and stocked at the library. I think this would be very helpful to inform patrons of Got Resume Builder, and some of the more tech savvy patrons could follow the instructions, but most of the patrons I work with really want that hands-on help and wouldn't be interested in a brochure.
Without further ado, here is by finished brochure!

Hi Maya! I really like your brochure! I think it’s well organized, simple and easy to navigate. I also had a hard time with the screenshots and fitting them in but I think you did really well in the end. I like the resource you chose too! I think this would be very helpful for many adults trying to create a resume.
